Day 8: Travel to Budapest

We started our day in Kraków, having a nice late wake-up time after yesterday’s at 6 am. Then we hit the road and drove for a few hours, crossing the border into Slovakia. Around 1 pm we stopped for lunch at a Slovakian town in the midst of the mountains. There was a very picturesque view beyond the buildings. As we ate in one of the restaurants, Mamma Mia began to play over the speakers! It was great for those of us who knew all the lyrics and it goes to show that music is the universal language. It did begin to rain during lunch, but it had cooled down to a drizzle by the time we walked down to the bus. Then we drove for another three hours and crossed the border into Hungary. By the time we reached Budapest we had about an hour until dinner. We visited Heroes’ Square to see the statues of the seven Hungarian tribal leaders and Kings who made a great impact on Hungary’s past. After dinner we went to the hotel, and our bus driver Peter made a miraculous turn onto this curving street to get us as close to the hotel as possible.
